Best Places to Go on a Date in Bedford-Stuyvesant New York

If you’re looking for a place to go on a date in Bedford-Stuyvesant New York, you’ve come to the right place. This neighborhood is home to tons of great restaurants, parks, and historic neighborhoods, so there’s something for everyone.

The neighborhood also has some of the city’s most impressive armories. Check out the Romanesque Revival castle-like 23rd Regiment Armory at 1322 Bedford Avenue, which is now a homeless shelter.

Court Street

Located within Brooklyn, Bedford-Stuyvesant is a culturally and racially divserse neighborhood that offers everything from parks and museums to delicious food. It's also relatively easy to get to Manhattan.

The history of this Brooklyn neighborhood dates back to the 17th century, when the Dutch settlers Dirck Janse Hooghland, Jan Hansen and Leffert Pietersen van Haughwout were granted land in the hamlet of Bedford, just east of the present Stuyvesant Heights Historic District. The lands remained farmland until the American Revolution, when they were made into a community.

As the 19th century progressed, a large influx of Italian immigrants came to the area. Some of them settled in Cobble Hill, and others in Carroll Gardens, where Court Street between 3rd and 4th Place was once known as “The Citizens of Mola di Bari Way.”

The 1860s saw the introduction of the Brooklyn and Jamaica Turnpike, which ran parallel to Fulton Street from the East River ferry to the village of Brooklyn. It was used as a trade route to the island of Jamaica and eastern Long Island.

Loulou

If you're looking for the perfect place to go on a date in Bedford-Stuyvesant New York, Loulou is one of the best options. The cozy French bistro is named after owner Mathias Van Leyden's adorable rescue dog and serves French classics for lunch, brunch and dinner.

The lower level speakeasy is a hidden gem with an extensive cocktail menu and a lively atmosphere with music nightly. It's one of the most sought-after secret spots in NYC and is perfect for a romantic night to remember.

Bed Stuy is also home to the film studio of renowned filmmaker Spike Lee, who makes films that address race relations and politics with unflinching honesty through the lens of a black perspective. His 1989 comedy Do The Right Thing was filmed entirely on a single block in the neighborhood and explores racial tension among residents of a borough.

Doris

The unassuming yellow door to Doris is the first indication of the cheery ambiance that awaits you inside. With a generous happy hour, tasty cocktails, and well curated (often DJ’d) vinyl music, this locals favorite is the place to go for a brew.

The bar features a great looking interior with succulents and wall-hanging, sand colored tapestries. It also has a cool looking back yard where you can enjoy your drinks while kicking it with a friend. For the discerning drinker, you can even order a cocktail in their outdoor speakeasy. A bit of a splurge, but it’s well worth the price. It has a good beer menu and a staff that is a lot of fun to talk to. They have a nice array of liquor and mixers to choose from as well. Be sure to check out their website for upcoming events and deals. They also have a few perks for their loyal customers, like their free ping pong tables and an excellent wine list.

Oddly Enough

If you’re looking for a place to impress your date with an evening of craft cocktails, food and small bites, Oddly Enough is the spot. This new bar opened April 1 in a space that used to be neighborhood restaurant Eugene & Co. It’s owned by Laura Poladsky, who worked as an employee of the formerly popular restaurant, and Caitlin Frame, a former bartender at Andrew Tarlow’s Marlow & Sons and Diner.

The bar serves an extensive list of zero-proof cocktails and a menu of small bites. The food is a mix of comfort classics and more experimental dishes, with favorites including the brothy beans and lamb meatballs.

The restaurant, which calls itself a “queer space for all,” also features community-based events and a weekly queer brunch. The bar’s staff is seeking to form a union, according to National Labor Relations Board documents.
