Located in the Lakewood neighborhood, The Longue Vue House and Gardens is a historic house museum and associated gardens. It is accredited by the American Alliance of Museums and was designed and built between 1934 and 1942 for philanthropist Edgar Bloom Stern and his wife, Edith Rosenwald Stern.

Landscape architect Ellen Biddle Shipman designed the eight acres of gardens around the home. She created garden "rooms" and plantings based on themes. These include the Wild Garden, with Louisiana irises and native plants from the Gulf South (Louisiana plant consultant Caroline Dorman contributed to the design); a brick pigeonnier; a rose-filled Walled Garden; and the Spanish Court.
